FIFA U20 WWC: France Punish Ghana’s Missed Chances to Secure 4-0 Victory

Ghana’s Black Princesses suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to France after a competitive first half gave way to a difficult second period.

Ghana thought they had taken an early lead in the fourth minute when Priscilla Mensah found the back of the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Mensah was then booked in the 19th minute as both sides continued to battle for control. Ghana pushed for the opener but went into the break level at 0-0, with three minutes of added time played.

Ghana started the second half positively, with Sarah Nyarko coming close in the 51st minute, only for her effort to be saved.

France eventually broke the deadlock in the 54th minute, putting Ghana behind for the first time in the game.

The French side doubled their advantage in the 68th minute, leaving the Black Princesses with a difficult task.

Ghana responded with a triple substitution in the 60th minute, as Jennifer replaced Ivy, Ruth came on for Agnes, and Margaret replaced Latifa, but France continued to dominate the scoreboard.

France were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute and converted from the spot to make it 3-0.

The visitors then added a fourth goal in the 85th minute to complete a convincing victory.

Despite Ghana’s promising first-half display and early second-half chance, France’s clinical finishing proved decisive as the Black Princesses eventually fell to a 4-0 defeat.
