Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their impressive run at the 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro on Monday.
The Nigerian U17 women’s team dominated possession and applied sustained pressure from the opening whistle, but Burkina Faso remained disciplined defensively to keep the Flamingos from finding an early breakthrough.
Nigeria created several promising chances during the first half but were unable to convert their opportunities as Burkina Faso stood firm at the back.
The two teams therefore went into the half-time break with the scoreline locked at 0-0.
Flamingos Break Burkina Faso Resistance
The Flamingos returned for the second half with greater intensity, pushing Burkina Faso deeper into their own half and increasing the pressure in the final third.
Nigeria’s persistence finally paid off in the 82nd minute when Mary Dunstan showed composure in front of goal to break the deadlock and put the Flamingos 1-0 ahead.
Burkina Faso struggled to mount a response as Nigeria continued to control the game.
The Flamingos eventually sealed the victory deep into stoppage time when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi found the back of the net to make it 2-0.
The late goal completed a convincing result for Nigeria and secured another three points in the competition.
Flamingos Maintain Perfect Record
The victory means the Flamingos have now collected nine points from three matches, maintaining their unbeaten record at the 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup.
Nigeria’s latest victory further strengthens their position in the competition as they continue their pursuit of the WAFU B U17 Girls Cup title.
The Flamingos will now turn their attention to their next fixture, with the Nigerian side aiming to maintain their momentum and continue their strong campaign in Yamoussoukro.
