Four-Game suspension for Al Ahly goalkeeper El Shenawy

Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy has received a four-match ban from the Egyptian Premier League for misconduct.

The incident took place during the opening of the playoff phase, where Al Ahly were held to a 1-1 draw by Ceramica Cleopatra.

Although he did not start the match, El Shenawy reacted angrily after the final whistle, confronting the referee over a penalty decision he felt had been wrongly denied.

Along with his suspension, the Egyptian international has also been fined 50,000 Egyptian pounds, as the league reinforces its strict policy on respect toward match officials.

Al Ahly will now be without their experienced goalkeeper for several key upcoming fixtures.

The controversy stems from accusations that El Shenawy physically confronted the referee, an act reportedly recorded and included in the official match report, casting a shadow over the reputation of a player usually known for his discipline and calmness.
