The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) was represented by Talent ID & Scouting Officer Jerome Katende at the FIFA Talent Identification Education Workshop held in Rabat, Morocco from 3rd to 5th April 2026.
The three-day workshop brought together Talent Identification leads from selected Member Associations across Africa and Asia, with a focus on strengthening national Talent ID systems and aligning approaches within the FIFA Talent Development Scheme.
The workshop aimed to establish a shared understanding of Talent Identification, support the development of national structures and strategic frameworks, and provide practical tools for designing and delivering Talent ID events. It also emphasised the need for sustainable systems for tracking, reporting, and planning Talent ID activities.
The programme was structured around the FIFA Talent Development framework, which focuses on finding, training, and providing opportunities for players to play. Participants progressed through three key stages that included strategic foundations, practical delivery, and organisation and sustainability.
Prior to the workshop, participants took part in a pre-workshop webinar held on 26th March 2026, which aligned expectations and required each Member Association to present their current Talent Identification structures, strengths, and key challenges.
Day one focused on strategic foundations, including understanding the global Talent Identification framework, defining roles, and designing national Talent ID structures. Participants also engaged in case studies and knowledge exchange sessions, where Uganda was among the Member Associations highlighted.
On the second day, attention shifted to practical delivery, with sessions centred on running Talent ID events, player profiling, and scouting methodologies. Participants also took part in practical simulations to apply the concepts in real-life scenarios.
The final day addressed organisation and sustainability, with emphasis on integrating Talent Identification into national player development pathways, enhancing reporting mechanisms, and developing actionable implementation plans. Each participant concluded the workshop with a 90-day action plan to support Talent ID activities within their respective associations.
