Ghanaian midfielder Lord Afrifa is emerging as one of the country’s promising young talents in European football after making another significant step in his development with Austria Lustenau.
The 20 year old central midfielder joined Austria Lustenau from fellow Austrian side Sturm Graz II in the summer, signing a two year contract with an option for an additional season. The move represents another important chapter in a European journey that began with Great Corinthians FC in Ghana.
Afrifa moved to Austria in September 2024 and quickly progressed through the ranks at Sturm Graz. After initially featuring for the club’s U19 side, he established himself with Sturm Graz II, making 41 appearances in Austria’s second tier across two seasons.
His performances earned him recognition at international level, with the midfielder representing Ghana’s Black Satellites. Afrifa was part of the Ghana U20 setup during the 2025 campaign, gaining valuable experience on the international stage.
What makes Afrifa particularly intriguing is his all action style in midfield. He is a dynamic box to box player who combines athleticism, intensity and stamina with the ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.
His ball control and composure in possession allow him to help his team progress play, while his tackling ability and defensive work rate make him equally effective without the ball. Austria Lustenau sporting director Dieter Alge described him as a versatile central midfielder capable of covering large areas of the pitch.
The move to Lustenau also presents Afrifa with an opportunity to take another step towards establishing himself at senior level. The club have handed the young Ghanaian a place in their first team setup, giving him a platform to compete at the highest level of Austrian football.
Afrifa has already begun making appearances for Lustenau in the 2026/27 Austrian Bundesliga campaign, underlining the progress he has made since leaving Ghana.
For Ghana, his development will be closely watched. With the Black Stars constantly searching for the next generation of midfield talent, Afrifa’s combination of energy, versatility and defensive discipline could eventually make him a player capable of pushing for senior international recognition.
From Great Corinthians to Sturm Graz, Ghana U20 duty and now Austria Lustenau, Lord Afrifa’s journey is gathering momentum.
At just 20, the midfielder has plenty of room to develop, but his rapid progression in Austria already marks him out as one of Ghana’s midfield prospects to watch.
