FC Samartex 1996 climbed to the summit of the Ghana Premier League standings after securing a narrow 1–0 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars in their Matchweek 9 encounter.
A first-half penalty from Christian Agyenim Boateng proved decisive as the Timber Giants claimed all three points in a closely contested fixture, moving level on points with league leaders Medeama SC.
The breakthrough arrived in the 25th minute when Samartex were awarded a penalty. Boateng took responsibility from the spot and calmly converted, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to hand the hosts a crucial 1–0 advantage.
Bibiani Gold Stars responded by pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but they struggled to find a way past a disciplined Samartex defence.
The visitors continued to search for a breakthrough as the game progressed, but the Timber Giants remained organised and resilient at the back to protect their slender lead until the final whistle.
The victory lifts FC Samartex 1996 to second place with 18 points from nine matches, having recorded five wins, three draws and one defeat. They now sit level on points with league leaders Medeama SC, with goal difference separating the two sides.
For Bibiani Gold Stars, the defeat represents another setback in their campaign. The Miners remain 14th on the standings with 10 points from nine matches, having registered three wins, one draw and five defeats.
Samartex will take confidence from the important victory as they continue their push for the league title, while Gold Stars will be looking to bounce back in their next fixture.
