Eric Wiafe Darkwah produced a moment of brilliance from the penalty spot as Swedru All Blacks secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Karela United in the Ghana Premier League.
The hosts made an early statement when they were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute. Darkwah stepped up and coolly executed a cheeky Panenka, chipping the ball over the goalkeeper to open the scoring and send the home supporters into celebration.
Karela United responded by searching for an equaliser, but Swedru All Blacks goalkeeper Michael Appiah proved equal to the task, producing an important save to deny the visitors and preserve his side’s advantage before the interval.
Swedru All Blacks strengthened their grip on the contest in the 60th minute when Faisal Charwetey capitalised on a defensive error to double the lead. The second goal gave the hosts breathing room as they managed the remainder of the game to secure all three points.
The victory takes Swedru All Blacks to 11 points from six matches, strengthening their position in the league’s upper half. Karela United, meanwhile, remain on nine points after suffering the defeat, leaving them with work to do as the campaign progresses.
