Hearts of Oak returned to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Port City FC at Legon on Matchday 6, ending their three-game winless run.

Frank Abora Duku scored the decisive goal in the 20th minute, while goalkeeper Benjamin Asare produced a crucial save to preserve the Phobians’ advantage and secure all three points.

Hearts started the encounter with determination, eager to turn their recent disappointing results around. Their positive approach paid off midway through the first half when Duku rose highest to connect with a cross from Dominic Nsobila and direct a powerful header past the Port City defence.

The early breakthrough lifted the home side, who looked to build on their advantage while remaining organised at the back.

Port City responded by pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but Hearts’ defensive resilience proved decisive. As the visitors increased the pressure, Asare came to his side’s rescue with important saves to deny them a route back into the contest.

The Phobians held firm through the closing stages to see out the narrow victory, earning a much-needed boost after three consecutive matches without a win.

Kelvin Osei Asibey, who was named NASCO Man of the Match, highlighted the team’s determination to secure victory after the final whistle.

“Coming into this game, all we had to do was to win this game,” he said.

The result lifts Hearts of Oak to second place in the league standings with 11 points from six matches, having recorded three wins, two draws and one defeat. They have scored seven goals and conceded just twice, giving them a goal difference of +5.

Port City, meanwhile, drop to fourth place with 10 points from six matches, having registered three wins, one draw and two defeats.

The victory will provide a timely lift for Hearts coach Nebojša Kapor and his players as they seek to build momentum and maintain their challenge near the top of the table. For Port City, attention now turns to their next fixture as they look to bounce back from the defeat.
