Asante Kotoko secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Young Apostles at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, driven by a decisive second-half performance that lifted the Porcupine Warriors into the upper echelons of the Ghana Premier League table.
Following a scoreless and tightly contested opening hour, the home side finally unlocked the visitors’ defense in the 69th minute. Hubert Gyau broke the stalemate, calmly applying the finish to put Kotoko 1-0 ahead and break Young Apostles’ resolve.
With momentum firmly on their side, Asante Kotoko doubled their advantage in the 81st minute. Solomon Asaah capitalized on a swift attacking sequence to slot past the keeper, making it 2-0 and seemingly putting the match beyond reach.
However, Young Apostles refused to go down without a fight. Deep into injury time (90+3′), Iddrisu Huzaif struck to pull a goal back for the visitors, setting up a tense final minute.
Despite the late scare, Kotoko held firm to seal all three points. The victory moves Asante Kotoko up to 11 points, placing them behind on 8th posting of the standings after seven matches. Meanwhile, Young Apostles remain stuck in the relegation zone in 17th place with six points.
