Egypt national team manager Ibrahim Hassan has confirmed that midfielder Hamdi Fathi will miss the Pharaohs’ upcoming international camp after suffering an injury while playing for Qatari club Al Wakrah.
Fathi has been ruled out of Egypt’s preparations for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and South Sudan, scheduled for September 25 and 29 respectively.
Speaking about the midfielder’s situation, Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that Fathi’s injury will prevent him from joining the squad currently assembled for the international fixtures.
Hassan explained that the midfielder is unlikely to recover in time to participate in Egypt’s three scheduled matches, making his absence necessary from the current camp.
Fathi joins Mahmoud Trezeguet and Yasser Ibrahim on Egypt’s injury absentee list, with both players also unavailable for the upcoming fixtures.
Egypt will face Angola and South Sudan in the opening rounds of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers before taking on South Africa in a friendly on October 4.
The Pharaohs will now have to manage their midfield options without Fathi as they begin their preparations for the qualifying campaign.
