Hansi Flick has strongly backed Lamine Yamal to win the next Ballon d’Or after Barcelona’s 5-1 Champions League victory over Feyenoord. The German coach praised the young winger’s exceptional qualities and insisted that he deserves the award.
Yamal captained Barcelona and delivered another decisive performance with one goal and two assists, helping his team continue their impressive start to the season with 22 goals in five matches.
Flick also expressed his disappointment over Raphinha and Pedri missing from the 30-player shortlist. “They should both be on that list. They are fantastic and would deserve it,” he said. The Barcelona coach remains delighted with his team’s performances and training intensity, while refusing to compare his current side with his former Bayern Munich team. “I am very happy here. Coaching Barça is a dream,” Flick added.
The German also avoided comparing Barcelona with Real Madrid, choosing instead to highlight his team’s collective approach. Flick believes his players succeed because they “play as a team” while continuing to entertain their supporters. With Yamal leading the way, Barcelona have made an impressive start and Flick remains confident in the quality and potential of his squad.
