Pape Gueye is still trying to understand Villarreal’s humiliating 6-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. The Senegalese midfielder endured the heaviest loss of his career as the Spanish side collapsed, conceding four goals in just eight minutes. The shocking result left Gueye searching for answers long after the final whistle.
Speaking to DAZN, the former Marseille player admitted that the defeat had kept him awake. “I didn’t sleep much, because we’re trying to understand what happened. It’s the first time this has ever happened to me—the first time I’ve conceded six goals in a single match,” he explained while reviewing footage alongside Villarreal’s video analyst.
Gueye also highlighted PSG’s impressive movement and collective organisation as key factors behind Villarreal’s struggles. He explained that Paris constantly changed positions, making it difficult for his side to track their players. “At times, I had Hakimi next to me, and at other times, it was the youngster Mayulu. They really knew how to move and position themselves,” he added. For Gueye, analysing those movements represents an important step towards understanding the scale of Villarreal’s collapse.
