Inter Lagos have announced the departure of head coach Shakira Giwa, making him the first managerial casualty of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The Lagos-based club confirmed Giwa’s exit in a statement published on its official X account, saying the coach had stepped down from his position.
“Coach Shakira Giwa has stepped down from his position as Head Coach,” the club announced.
Giwa was appointed in 2025 and played a key role in guiding Inter Lagos to promotion to the NPFL, earning the club a place in Nigeria’s top-flight football competition.
However, his departure comes early in the 2026/27 campaign, with Inter Lagos yet to announce a replacement.
The club’s management will now be expected to make a decision on the team’s technical leadership as it prepares for its next league fixture.
Inter Lagos are scheduled to face Nasarawa United this weekend, with attention now turning to how the team will approach the encounter following the coaching change.
The club’s next appointment could prove crucial as it seeks to maintain its competitiveness in the NPFL and achieve its objectives for the season.
Giwa’s exit is the first coaching departure reported in the 2026/27 NPFL campaign, highlighting the pressure managers face as clubs pursue their league ambitions.
