Kaizer Chiefs kick off 2026-27 season away to Kruger FC

The highly anticipated 2026/27 Betway Premiership season gets underway on Saturday, 1 August, as the marathon for the prestigious league title begins for all 16 teams in South Africa’s elite league.

Kaizer Chiefs face a tricky opening fixture against newly-promoted Kruger United, who will be making their debut in the top flight.

The Mpumalanga-based side will lean on the experience of seasoned players, including Rwandan international goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, currently on loan from Amakhosi.

After filling up the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace last Sunday during the Toyota Cup against Zimbabwe’s Scottland FC, the passionate Amakhosi faithful are expected to descend on Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. Under the guidance of coach Fernando Da Cruz, Chiefs will be aiming to start the season with a victory against the newcomers.

Tickets for the opening match between the Phefeni Glamour Boys and the Villages Boys are available at Computicket online, as well as Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets nationwide, priced at R100 per person.

Kick-off is scheduled for Saturday at 20:15 at Mbombela Stadium.
