Captain of the Central African Republic national team, Geoffrey Kondogbia, has publicly clarified the circumstances surrounding his absence from the latest squad, firmly rejecting claims that he declined a call-up.
In a statement released by Kondogbia, the midfielder addressed supporters, media, and the wider Central African public, explaining that he was not selected for the upcoming international gathering in Bangui during the March break.
Kondogbia revealed that he had been informed approximately ten days earlier by head coach Eloge Enza Yamissi that he was not included in the squad list. According to him, the decision was made by the president of the Central African Football Federation, leaving the player uncertain about the reasons behind his omission.
“I wish to state clearly that I have at no time refused to participate in this gathering,” Kondogbia emphasized, distancing himself from speculation suggesting otherwise.
The 31-year-old expressed disappointment at missing the opportunity to reconnect with home supporters, especially during what he described as a significant moment for the country after years without hosting matches.
Despite the setback, Kondogbia reaffirmed his commitment to the national team, known as the Fauves. He stressed that his dedication remains unwavering and that he is ready to contribute positively whenever called upon.
“I remain fully committed to the national team. My attachment to the Fauves is intact, and my mission remains the same — to represent our nation with pride,” he stated.
The development raises fresh questions about internal decision-making within the federation, particularly given Kondogbia’s leadership role as captain.
