LA 2028 Olympics: Black Queens Eye Olympic Qualifying Progress as Mauritius Visit Essipong

The Black Queens will look to complete the job against Mauritius when the two sides meet in the second leg of the second round of qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games on Tuesday at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi.

Ghana head into the encounter with a commanding 3-0 advantage from the first leg, played at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius last Thursday, leaving them firmly in control of the two-legged tie.

Abigail Kim, Alice Kusi and Benedicte Simon were on target in the first meeting, handing head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side a significant advantage ahead of the return fixture on home soil.

The Black Queens have also been in impressive form, winning their last three matches across all competitions, and will be determined to extend that run as they pursue a historic first qualification for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

With a three-goal cushion, Ghana will aim to manage the game effectively while maintaining their attacking threat to secure progression to the third round of the qualifiers. Björkegren is expected to retain the core of the team that impressed in Mauritius, although some changes could be made to provide opportunities for other players.

Mauritius, meanwhile, face a difficult task as they attempt to overturn the deficit away from home. Despite the uphill challenge, the visitors will hope to produce an improved performance and cause an upset against the hosts.

The Black Queens held their official Matchday-1 training session at the Essipong Stadium on Monday evening as preparations intensified ahead of the decisive encounter.

The match is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 15:00 GMT, with supporters in the Western Region expected to turn out in numbers to rally behind the Queens.

With a place in the next round at stake, the Black Queens will be eager to deliver another strong performance and move one step closer to their ambition of making history by qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
