Congolese football is on the brink of a new chapter after the Electoral Commission officially confirmed Véron Mosengo-Omba as the sole candidate for the presidency of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA). The verdict, delivered overnight between Monday and Tuesday, leaves the former CAF general secretary poised to take charge of the nation’s football administration.
With no rival remaining on the final list, Mosengo-Omba is now expected to assume leadership of FECOFA with a reform-driven agenda already laid out. His programme focuses on restoring governance and credibility within the federation, stabilising competitions and national teams, investing in youth football across all 26 provinces, and building a sustainable football model through infrastructure, finance and branding.
The announcement has generated major discussion across Congolese football circles, with many viewing the development as a decisive moment for a federation that has faced years of instability and administrative challenges. Mosengo-Omba has repeatedly stressed the need to “rebuild FECOFA” in order to create long-term structure and return Congolese football to competitive heights on the continent.
Attention will now shift toward the official transition process and how quickly the proposed reforms can be implemented. Supporters and stakeholders alike will hope the incoming leadership can restore confidence, strengthen domestic football structures and guide the Leopards back toward sustained success in African football.
