The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it has called for the resignation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The football governing body described the reports as completely false, urging members of the public, football stakeholders and supporters to disregard the claims.
In a statement issued in response to the reports, the NFF made it clear that it has neither demanded nor is currently seeking the removal of Infantino as head of world football’s governing body.
“Contrary to reports, especially on social media, @thenff has never asked and is not asking for @FIFAcom President, Mr. Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA PRESIDENT.
“This is outright falsehood.
“Kindly disregard.”
The clarification comes amid growing circulation of unverified information on social media, where claims involving major football organisations and personalities can spread rapidly without confirmation from the relevant authorities.
The NFF’s statement therefore serves as a direct rebuttal of the reports and reinforces that there has been no official request from the federation for Infantino to vacate his position as FIFA president.
Infantino has served as FIFA president since 2016 and remains at the centre of global football administration.
Any move by a national football federation such as the NFF to call for his resignation would represent a significant development in the international football community.
However, according to the NFF, no such request has been made.
The federation has consequently urged the public to rely on official communication from the NFF and other recognised football authorities rather than unverified reports circulating across social media platforms.
