Nigeria: Taiwo Awoniyi opens up about his Super Eagles absence

Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has broken his silence regarding his absence from the Super Eagles training camp for the Unity Cup and June friendlies.

Absent from the national team since October 2024, the player was keen to clarify the situation with complete transparency:

“I was supposed to be at the Super Eagles camp, but I withdrew for personal reasons that I need to address. We have a wealth of talent in the Super Eagles, so as far as I’m concerned, everyone in the squad for these friendly matches is just as good as I am.”

This humble statement reassures fans of his commitment to the national team, while showing complete confidence in his teammates.

Although he hasn’t taken the field for Nigeria since playing 16 minutes against Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Awoniyi proves that he remains his country’s biggest fan, as he awaits his imminent return to the spotlight.
