NPFL Fines Katsina United ₦2 Million Over Security Breach, Pitch Encroachment

Katsina United have been fined a total of ₦2 million by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following security breaches and a pitch encroachment incident during their match against Plateau United on Sunday.

The sanctions were imposed after the club was found to have violated provisions of the NPFL 2026/2027 season framework and rules over its failure to maintain adequate security and prevent supporters from entering restricted areas and the field of play.

According to the league’s disciplinary charges, Katsina United failed to provide sufficient security arrangements for the encounter, allowing unauthorised individuals to gain access to areas designated for authorised personnel.

The incident raised concerns about the safety of players, match officials and other individuals involved in the fixture.

Katsina United Fined for Security Lapses

As part of the disciplinary measures, Katsina United were fined ₦1 million for failing to provide adequate and effective security during the match against Plateau United.

The NPFL also imposed an additional ₦1 million fine on the club after its supporters encroached onto the pitch, an incident that compromised the safety and security of players and match officials.

The combined penalties bring the club’s total financial sanction to ₦2 million.

The league’s action reinforces its regulations requiring participating clubs to implement effective matchday security measures and ensure that spectators remain within designated viewing areas throughout a match.

Club Given 48 Hours to Appeal NPFL Sanctions

Katsina United have been given 48 hours, equivalent to two working days from the date of notification, to appeal the disciplinary decisions.

The appeal window provides the club with an opportunity to challenge the charges or sanctions in accordance with the league’s established disciplinary procedures.

The case highlights the responsibility of NPFL clubs to maintain order at their home grounds and ensure that supporters do not gain unauthorised access to restricted sections or the playing surface.

With the NPFL continuing to enforce its competition regulations, clubs are expected to strengthen their security arrangements to prevent similar incidents and protect everyone involved in league matches.

The sanctions against Katsina United serve as a reminder that security failures and pitch invasions can attract financial penalties under the NPFL’s disciplinary framework.
