NWFL Super 6: Edo Queens Secure Second NWFL Premiership Crown

Edo Queens have emerged champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after holding Bayelsa Queens to a goalless draw in the decisive final match of the Super Six playoffs at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday.

Heading into the encounter, Bayelsa Queens needed all three points to claim the title, while a draw was enough for Edo Queens to finish on top.

The Benin-based side delivered a disciplined performance, successfully frustrating their rivals in a closely fought contest that produced chances at both ends but no breakthrough.

The result handed Edo Queens their second NWFL Premiership title, further strengthening their reputation as one of the leading teams in Nigerian women’s football.

They now join Bayelsa Queens as the only clubs to have lifted the league trophy twice in the past six seasons.

The triumph also marked another milestone for head coach Moses Aduku, who became the first manager to win three NWFL Premiership titles within six seasons.

Aduku previously guided Bayelsa Queens to league success in 2022 before leading Edo Queens to championship victories in 2024 and 2026.

In other Super Six fixtures, Nasarawa Amazons and hosts Rivers Angels settled for a 0-0 draw, while FC Robo Queens battled back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Abia Angels.

Edo Queens finished at the summit of the standings with 10 points, two clear of runners-up Bayelsa Queens.

Nasarawa Amazons claimed third place, while debutants Abia Angels ended their campaign with six points.

FC Robo Queens and Rivers Angels completed the table with four points each.

At the end-of-season awards, FC Robo Queens midfielder Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named Player of the Season, while Fatima Oloko received the Goalkeeper of the Season honour.

Rivers Angels forward Abasiofon Uwah and Edo Queens striker Atume Doosuur shared the Golden Boot award after scoring 13 goals each.

Rivers Angels also took home the Fair Play Award.

As league champions, Edo Queens will represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso from August 13 to September 5.

The team will be aiming to secure a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League and keep alive hopes of reaching the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
