Ogum Backs Black Starlets for AFCON Challenge After Strong Preparations

Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed firm confidence in Ghana’s U-17 national team, the Black Starlets, as they gear up for the upcoming Africa U-17 Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Speaking after the squad landed in Morocco, Dr. Ogum emphasized that the selection process was deliberate and rooted in merit. “We have carefully selected this squad based on current form, discipline, and tactical understanding,” he stated. “These boys have shown great commitment throughout our preparations, and I firmly believe they are ready to compete at the highest level of African football.”

As part of their build-up, the Black Starlets tested their readiness in two high-intensity friendly matches against Ivory Coast at the Stade Alassane Ouattara, recording one win and one loss. The matches offered a valuable assessment of the team’s strengths and areas requiring refinement ahead of the continental showpiece.

Drawn in a challenging Group D alongside Algeria, Senegal, and South Africa, Ghana faces a stern test in its quest for glory. The Starlets, however, carry the weight of history and ambition, chasing a third U-17 AFCON title after their triumphs in 1995 and 1999.
