Achraf Hakimi missed Paris Saint-Germain’s squad for Sunday’s 2–1 victory over Olympique de Marseille at the Vélodrome, but Morocco still called up the full-back for the upcoming international break.
The decision raised questions as Hakimi had not recovered enough to feature in the Classique. However, Luis Enrique clarified the situation after the match and stressed that PSG remains in contact with the Moroccan national team.
“It’s not my decision; I have total confidence in him. He cannot play in the upcoming international match, but we are in talks with the national team,” the PSG coach explained. Luis Enrique also highlighted Hakimi’s desire to represent Morocco and said he had no issue with the call-up. “We know how important it is for players to represent their country. I’m happy for him to go, but we didn’t want to take any risks.”
Luis Enrique insists that Hakimi’s health remains the priority as PSG and Morocco continue to monitor his recovery. “We’ll stay in touch, as always,” he added. The Parisian club therefore intends to maintain close communication with the Atlas Lions while avoiding any unnecessary risk with one of its key players during the international break.
