Queiroz Opens Black Stars Camp in Cardiff Ahead of Wales Friendly

Carlos Queiroz has officially begun the final phase of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after opening a training camp in Cardiff ahead of next week’s international friendly against Wales.

The experienced Portuguese tactician has assembled a 28-man squad for the camp as the Ghana national football team intensify preparations for the tournament to be hosted in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Despite naming an expanded squad for the training exercise, Queiroz is expected to trim the group down to 26 players before finalising Ghana’s official roster for the World Cup, leaving several players battling for the remaining spots.

The camp has also seen the return of a number of key players who have been absent from the national team setup in recent months. Baba Rahman is back with the Black Stars for the first time since September 2023, while Ernest Nuamah, Abdul Mumin, Augustine Boakye and Alidu Seidu have all returned to contention following lengthy injury layoffs.

Their inclusion provides a timely boost for Ghana as the technical team continues assessing the squad ahead of the global tournament.

For Queiroz, the coming days in Cardiff will be crucial as he seeks to strike the right balance between experienced campaigners and emerging talents before Ghana’s fourth appearance at the FIFA World Cup. The friendly against Wales is expected to offer the Black Stars an important test as preparations enter their decisive stage.
