Real Madrid appeal rejected over Valverde sending-off

The Spanish Referees Technical Committee has upheld the decision to send off Federico Valverde during the match between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid in La Liga.

Referee José Luis Munuera Montero justified the red card by citing “excessive force” following a strong challenge on Álex Baena, a decision now officially validated by the CTA.

Despite Real Madrid contesting the call and insisting there was no intent to harm, the ruling stands, exposing Valverde to a possible two-match suspension. The decision reinforces the refereeing body’s strict stance on dangerous play, even in high-stakes encounters.
