Rio Ferdinand agrees to market Tanzanian football in Europe

World football legend and former Manchester United and England captain Rio Ferdinand has expressed his gratitude to Tanzanians for the exceptional reception he received since his arrival in the country on May 19, 2026.

Ferdinand, who has also been appointed as Tanzania’s Tourism Ambassador, said he has accepted the role with great joy and considered it a unique opportunity to promote the country and the African continent in general. He stated that he is ready to use his voice and influence to tell the true stories of culture, people’s lives and attractions in the country.

Speaking about his experience, Ferdinand said that before the trip he did not have a deep understanding of African life, but his visit to Tanzania has opened his eyes and given him a new perspective on the beauty of the country and the hospitality of its people.

He added that what he saw and experienced has made him realize that Africa has a great treasure trove of cultural and social wealth, something that should be more widely publicized on the international stage to attract the world to know and visit it.

According to Ferdinand, the experience has not only changed his perspective, but has also given him a strong commitment to be a good ambassador to tell the story of Africa in a more positive and engaging way to the world.
