Rivers United, Rangers Set for NPFL Title Showdown on Final Day

The race for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League title is heading for a thrilling finale, with Rivers United and Rangers International locked in a fierce battle for the championship ahead of the final round of matches on May 24.

Rivers United enter the decisive weekend with the advantage and destiny firmly in their hands.

The Port Harcourt side will host Katsina United in what is widely regarded as a favourable fixture as they seek to clinch the NPFL crown in front of their home supporters.

Technical manager Finidi George and his players know that victory would guarantee the title and cap off an impressive campaign for the Pride of Rivers, who have consistently remained among the league’s top performers throughout the season.

However, defending champions Rangers International are refusing to surrender the title race without a fight.

The Flying Antelopes face a difficult away trip to Lagos, where they will take on ambitious newcomers Ikorodu City in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the season.

For Rangers, only a win will keep their hopes alive, while they must also hope Rivers United drop points against Katsina United.

The Enugu club have shown resilience in recent weeks and will be determined to push the title race to the very end.

Ikorodu City, meanwhile, also have plenty to play for.

The newly promoted side are still chasing a possible continental ticket and must beat Rangers while hoping results elsewhere work in their favour.

Beyond the title race, the battle for continental qualification and survival is also set to go down to the wire.

Shooting Stars, Niger Tornadoes and several other clubs remain involved in tense contests at both ends of the table.

The relegation scrap remains particularly intense, with teams from Kano Pillars in 10th position down to Niger Tornadoes in 18th still mathematically threatened heading into the final day.

Only Bayelsa United and Wikki Tourists have already been confirmed relegated from the top flight.
