Senegal welcome back Cheikhou Kouyate to the National team

Former Senegal captain Cheikhou Kouyate is expected to return to the Lions of Teranga setup ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

After representing Senegal on the field in 2018 and 2022, the experienced midfielder is set to join head coach Pape Thiaw’s technical staff, according to Dsports.

This move to the other side of the sideline is a major boost for the Senegalese coaching staff.

Drawing on his exceptional experience at the highest level, Kouyate will bring his natural leadership and deep understanding of the team to guide the new generation.

It’s an ideal transition for a player who is set to experience his third World Cup finals, this time from the sidelines.
