Spanish football enters new era with automated offside technology

La Liga is preparing a major shift in refereeing with the introduction of automatic offside starting next season. La Liga president Javier Tebas confirmed the development during an event in Madrid.

Tebas assured that the system should be operational from the opening matchday in both La Liga and the Segunda División. The objective is clear: reduce controversies that regularly affect Spanish football, just as debates continue across Premier League, Ligue 1 and Serie A on refereeing consistency.

This innovation relies on a chip integrated into the ball, capable of detecting the exact moment of contact during a pass. Combined with advanced camera tracking and data systems, it will automate decisions that currently depend on VAR officials.

In the middle of this technological evolution, La Liga aims to eliminate interpretation errors and bring more accuracy to officiating, while other competitions like Premier League, Ligue 1 and Serie A closely monitor this potential revolution in football refereeing.
