Super Falcons Beat Comoros 2-0 to Boost LA 2028 Olympic Qualification Hopes

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have taken a significant step towards qualifying for the women’s football tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after securing a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of their qualifying encounter.

The Nigerian women’s national team delivered a strong second-half performance, scoring twice to establish a valuable advantage ahead of the return fixture as they continue their quest for a place at the global sporting event.

Michelle Alozie, Uchenna Kanu Fire Super Falcons to Victory

The Super Falcons had to wait until the second half to break the deadlock, with defender Michelle Alozie opening the scoring in the 48th minute.

Alozie’s goal came just three minutes after the restart, giving Nigeria the breakthrough and providing the team with renewed confidence as the contest progressed.

The goal put the Super Falcons in control of the encounter and increased the pressure on Comoros, who were seeking to contain the Nigerian side.

Nigeria extended its lead in the 60th minute when forward Uchenna Kanu found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Kanu’s strike further strengthened Nigeria’s position, giving the team a two-goal cushion and putting the Super Falcons in a favourable position heading into the second leg.

The two goals ensured that Nigeria finished the encounter with a clean sheet, while demonstrating the team’s ability to turn its attacking pressure into goals after the interval.

Super Falcons Take Advantage into Second Leg

The 2-0 victory represents an important result for Nigeria as the team pursues qualification for the women’s football competition at the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

With Alozie and Kanu getting on the scoresheet, the Super Falcons will look to maintain their momentum and build on the advantage when both teams meet again in the return fixture.

Nigeria will be aiming to complete the job in the second leg and move closer to securing a place in the Olympic qualifying competition’s next stage.

However, the team must remain focused, with the return encounter expected to provide another test of its consistency, defensive organisation and attacking efficiency.

Nigeria Target Return to Olympic Football

The Super Falcons are among Africa’s leading women’s national teams and will be eager to secure a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Qualifying for the women’s football tournament would provide Nigeria with another opportunity to compete against the world’s best teams on the Olympic stage.

The victory over Comoros offers the Nigerian side a positive foundation as it continues its qualification campaign.

With a two-goal advantage secured in the first leg, attention will now turn to the return fixture, where the Super Falcons will seek another positive result to strengthen their bid for Olympic qualification.

For Nigeria, the immediate objective is to progress through the qualifying rounds and move a step closer to representing Africa at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
