Super Falcons Step Up WAFCON Title Defence Preparations with UK Training Tour

Super Falcons will intensify preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a training tour of the United Kingdom later this month as the African champions begin plans to defend their continental crown.

The camping exercise is scheduled to hold from May 23 to 28 and will include at least one friendly match as part of efforts to keep the team competitive ahead of the tournament.

Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to use the tour to evaluate new players and fringe squad members, with several established stars likely to be unavailable because of club commitments in Europe and other leagues.

The Super Falcons, who have won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations a record 10 times, are aiming to build a strong squad capable of retaining their title when the competition begins next year.

Nigeria had initially planned to face Cape Verde women’s national football team in a double-header friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium last month, but the fixtures were cancelled after Cape Verde withdrew from the games.

Despite the setback, the Nigerian team is expected to remain active during the next FIFA international window from June 7 to 14, with additional friendly matches likely to be arranged as preparations continue for their title defence campaign.
