Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC will be determined to return to winning ways when they visit URA FC in a crucial Uganda Premier League encounter at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Saturday, October 31, with kickoff scheduled for 8pm.
The reigning champions head into the contest eager to rediscover their winning rhythm, restore consistency and reignite their pursuit of a third successive league crown.
Under the stewardship of head coach John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda, the Venoms will be seeking a positive response following Wednesday’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Mbarara City at Rwamwanja Stadium. The result left us seventh on the Uganda Premier League table with 11 points from seven matches, comprising three victories, two draws and two defeats.
Having previously shared the spoils with Maroons FC and Police FC, the Venoms will be eager to end a three-match winless run and begin climbing the standings.
Despite the recent setbacks, there remains plenty of football to be played, with 27 league matches still ahead and ample opportunity to rediscover the consistency that has defined our championship-winning campaigns. Having completed last season unbeaten on the pitch, the Venoms possess the quality, experience and determination required to turn their fortunes around.
Saturday’s assignment consequently offers another opportunity for Ayala and his charges to demonstrate their resolve and begin building the momentum necessary to challenge at the summit.
The Opposition
URA FC will approach the encounter with renewed confidence following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over UPDF FC on Tuesday.
The Tax Collectors secured maximum points courtesy of Denis Ssekitoleko’s own goal, which resulted from Isma Mugulusi’s dangerous delivery. The victory ended their six-match winless sequence and handed returning head coach Sam Ssimbwa a timely boost after replacing Jimmy Kintu Mwera.
URA currently have seven points from eight matches and will be seeking to build on their latest success in front of their home supporters.
Head-to-Head
The Venoms boast an impressive recent record against the Tax Collectors, having gone unbeaten in the previous nine Uganda Premier League meetings between the two sides.
Last season, Vipers registered a commanding 3-0 away victory over URA before the reverse fixture at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, ended in a 1-1 draw. That record provides encouragement heading into Saturday’s contest, although the Venoms will be fully aware of the challenge posed by a URA side seeking to sustain its resurgence.
With the championship race still in its early stages, the objective at Nakivubo will be clear: deliver a committed performance, secure maximum points and take an important step towards restoring our winning momentum.
