WAFCON 2026 : Algeria beats Ivory Coast to reach semi-finals

Algeria secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after coming from behind to beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in a thrilling quarter-final. The Elephants took control early and opened the scoring through I. Konan in the 29th minute, but Algeria gradually found a way back into the contest.

Ivory Coast looked set to take their advantage into halftime, but N. Ouédraogo’s red card in the 42nd minute changed the course of the game. Algeria capitalized on their numerical advantage after the break, with I. Khiri coming off the bench at halftime and equalizing in the 59th minute. Ivory Coast then missed a huge opportunity to reclaim the lead when R. Elloh failed to convert a penalty in the 62nd minute.

Algeria completed the comeback just two minutes later when A. Braham put her team ahead in the 64th minute after M. Dafeur’s assist. Ivory Coast threw everything forward in search of an equalizer, but Algeria resisted the pressure and protected its lead until the final whistle.

The Algerians therefore complete a remarkable comeback and advance to the semi-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
