WAFCON 2026: Morocco beat Algeria to finish top of Group A (1-0)

At the end of an intense and hard-fought derby from start to finish at Moulay El Hassan Stadium, Morocco ultimately prevailed over Algeria 1-0 on Matchday 2 of Group A.

The two teams engaged in a true tactical battle from the opening kickoff, heading into halftime tied at 0-0.

Back on the field, the Atlas Lionesses stepped up their game and intensified their attacks, turning up the heat in the final quarter-hour.

The Algerian defense, which had been flawless up to that point, eventually crumbled under the constant pressure from the Moroccan players.

The turning point of the match came in the 84th minute following a poor clearance by the Algerian back line.

Lurking nearby, Mssoudy found herself behind the defense and alone in front of the goalkeeper, slotting the ball into the back of the net to break the deadlock.

Thanks to this narrow but well-deserved victory, Morocco has achieved a perfect record with two wins in two matches.

This result allows the Lionesses to take sole possession of first place in Group A and fully assert their status in front of their home crowd.
