WAFCON 2026: South Africa knock out Burkina Faso

The final round of Group B at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations concluded on Tuesday with decisive encounters.

Burkina Faso faced South Africa in a must-win match, while Ivory Coast took on Tanzania.

The Etalons Dames needed all three points to book a place in the quarterfinals, but South Africa struck first and never looked back.

Thembi Kgatlana broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, finishing calmly after being played through by Fikile Magama to give Banyana Banyana a 1-0 lead before halftime.

After the break, Burkina Faso pushed for an equalizer and created several opportunities, but failed to convert them.

South Africa held firm defensively to secure a 1-0 victory, a result that proved enough to send them into the knockout stage.

In the other Group B fixture, Ivory Coast defeated Tanzania 2-1, ensuring top spot in the group.

As a result, Ivory Coast and South Africa advance to the quarterfinals, while Burkina Faso’s WAFCON 2026 campaign comes to an end.
