Nigeria’s Super Falcons have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final group-stage match in Rabat, Morocco.
The defending champions delivered an attacking masterclass to book their place in the last eight, underlining their status as one of the tournament favourites.
The Falcons took the lead in the 21st minute when captain Asisat Oshoala calmly converted a penalty to give Nigeria a deserved advantage.
Gift Monday doubled the lead deep into first-half stoppage time, finishing off a flowing attacking move to put the nine-time African champions firmly in control.
Egypt, however, pulled one back moments before the break through Nadine Ghazi, who converted from the penalty spot in the ninth minute of added time to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Nigeria resumed the second half with renewed intensity, and Uchenna Kanu restored the two-goal cushion in the 57th minute with a clinical finish.
Midfielder Christy Ucheibe added a fourth in the 80th minute to further strengthen the Falcons’ grip on the contest.
Ghazi struck again for Egypt in the 84th minute to make it 4-2, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished.
Rasheedat Ajibade converted Nigeria’s second penalty of the evening in the 88th minute before Joy Omewa rounded off the emphatic victory with a stoppage-time goal in the 98th minute.
The 6-2 triumph confirms Nigeria’s qualification for the quarter-finals as they continue the defence of their continental crown.
The Super Falcons will now shift their focus to the knockout stage, where they will aim to maintain their impressive form in pursuit of another African title as well as a ticket to the 2026 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
