World Cup 2026: Morocco move forward without Boufal

Mohamed Ouahbi explained one of the major choices behind his 2026 World Cup roster the absence of Sofiane Boufal.

While the 32-year-old was still hoping to be among the 26 players called up, he will ultimately not be part of the World Cup journey with the Atlas Lions.

The Moroccan coach acknowledged that Boufal’s profile was not ruled out due to a lack of ability, but rather because of tactical choices and competition.

“Honestly, yes, he deserved it, but if I could take 30 or 40 players… The problem is that I can only take 26 players,” Ouahbi explained.

The coach specifically mentioned the depth at the playmaker position and players better suited to his needs on the wings.
