Two Peruvian police officers disguised as World Cup mascots arrested a suspected drug trafficker during the opening day of the 2026 World Cup.
Acting on intelligence about the suspect’s passion for football, the officers approached his home in Lima before carrying out the arrest.
Authorities later seized more than 2,500 packets of cocaine base paste, along with marijuana, a firearm, ammunition, cash, and several mobile phones.
The operation was hailed as a major success by Peruvian officials.
