Zambia FA President Keith Mweemba steps aside as Chairperson of national team Technical Committee

FAZ President Keith Mweemba has stepped aside as Chairperson of the National Team Technical Committee to allow him to focus fully on his wider responsibilities.

FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya said the decision will enable the FAZ President to devote greater attention to the broader responsibilities of his office and other strategic priorities.

The FAZ president steps aside after a year at the helm of the committee, having helped to guide it through its formative months and lay a strong foundation for its work. Chakatazya said a new chairperson of the national team technical committee will be appointed and announced in due course.

Meanwhile, Chakatazya has announced the appointment of former Zambia U-23 Men’s National Team coach Peter Kaumba to the National Team Technical Committee. Kaumba, who guided the Zambia U-23 Men’s National Team to the semi-finals of the 2003 All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria, brings extensive football knowledge and experience to the committee.

The former Zambia international, who was named Best Winger at the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations, joins a committee that includes former FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya, Kenneth ‘Bubble’ Malitoli, Patrick Phiri and Danny Kabwe.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr Peter Kaumba, a football legend and experienced coach, to the National Team Technical Committee. His knowledge and experience will add value to the committee’s work,” he said.

“I also wish to inform all football stakeholders and members of the football family that the FAZ President has stepped aside as Chairperson of the Technical Committee to enable him to give greater attention to his broader responsibilities as President. A new Chairperson will be appointed and announced in due course.”

Meanwhile, Chakatazya confirmed the appointment of FAZ Luapula Province Chairperson Hans Mujala Mweemba as Chairperson of the Referees’ Committee. Former FIFA referee and COSAFA/CAF member physical instructor Bernard Chabala has also been appointed to the committee.

Chakatazya said the appointment of Mweemba follows the departure of former Chairperson Gladys Lengwe.

“You will recall that Ms Gladys Lengwe stepped down as Chairperson of the Referees’ Committee last year. The Executive Committee has therefore appointed Mr Hans Mujala Mweemba as her successor. Mr Bernard Chabala has also been appointed as a member of the committee,” said Chakatazya.
