Although Bay FC controlled the action for the majority of the day, early goals from the Orlando Pride in each half proved too much to overcome in the 3-1 defeat on Sunday, Sept. 27, at PayPal Park.
Orlando midfielder Haley McCutcheon accounted for the first two Orlando’s scores, in the second and 47th minute, putting the visitors in front each time.
The Pride got a late goal from Lizbeth Ovalle to put the game away. Bay FC answered McCutcheon’s first score in the 11th minute when a perfect cross from Claire Hutton led to a diving header from Racheal Kundananji.
The resulting goal was the third of the season for Kundananji, and her first since July. Though Bay FC had over 54 percent possession and outshot Orlando 27-9, the home team couldn’t find the equalizer in the second half. The defeat snaps a two-match unbeaten streak for Bay FC, who will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when the team visits Kansas City Current.
