FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP FIFA U17 WWC: Flamingos Stuns USA To Reach First-Ever Semi-Final

Nigeria’s Flamingos upset tournament favorites the United States in a penalty shootout and advanced to their first-ever FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup semifinals.

As both sides assessed one another, the match staged in Mumbai, the nation’s capital, lived up to the hype.

After Amina Bello was fouled in the box in the 27th minute, Edafe Omamuzo converted a penalty for the Flamingos to score the game’s first goal.

Since then, the Americans have taken control of the match. Amalica Villarreal was able to tie the score in the 40th minute thanks to a deflection from Folorunsho, and the first half concluded in a 1-1 draw.

The second half began with the Americans in control, but the Flamingos defense neutralized all of their attacking threats, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

The US missed one of its three penalty kicks, while the Flamingos converted the first three of theirs.

Folorunsho missed Nigeria’s fourth attempt, but the Americans were stopped by the Flamingos goalkeeper before Omamuzo put Nigeria into the semifinals.
