Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface scored his 13th goal in Sunday’s 5-0 thumping of the hosts VfL Bochum by Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen extended their incredible unbeaten streak this season to 50 games in all competitions.
In pursuit of a treble of championships, Xabi Alonso’s club advanced to the Europa League final on Thursday by edging past Benfica’s venerable European undefeated record, which was achieved from 1963 to 1965, with a 2-2 draw against AS Roma.
They did not back down from their match against Bochum, the bottom team in the Bundesliga, on Saturday, scoring twice in the latter half of the first half.

Leverkusen took the lead through Patrik Schick in the 41st minute, then Victor Boniface extended their lead with a penalty in first-half added time.
Felix Passlack’s straight red card in the 15th minute reduced Bochum to 10 men.
In the 76th minute, Amine Adli increased the lead to 3-0.
Josip Stanisic then added another goal in the 86th minute with a low drive, and in stoppage time, he set up Alejandro Grimaldo for a tap-in.
With one Bundesliga game remaining in the season, Leverkusen has 87 points.
They take on Atalanta in the Europa League showpiece and Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final.
After defeating VfL Wolfsburg 2-0 earlier on Sunday, Bayern Munich is now 15 points behind in second place.
