APR FC winger Gilbert Mugisha will be looking to score more goals to help his side get positive results during the much-awaited 2025 CECAFA Kagame Cup.
The Rwanda international is part of the 24-man squad that new head coach Darko Novic will be using during the regional football showpiece which will take place in Tanzania and Zanzibar from July 9-21.
Mugisha became the first place to score at the new-look 45,000-seat Amahoro Stadium when his lone strike helped APR beat Police FC 1-0 on July 1 to lift the stadium inauguration trophy.
“I’m delighted with it, but there’s still more to come. I look after myself. I have always said that working hard always pays. My legs feel fine so that’s why I am ready for Cecafa Kagame Cup,” Mugisha said as quoted by Times Sport.
Mugisha has never won the CECAFA Kagame Cup in his career. But his ambitions, going forward, are just beyond the tournament itself but the new season during APR will be looking to retain the league title for a record sixth time in a row as well as knock on the CAF Champions League group stages once again.
“We have to be consistent and keep working hard. We will keep fighting to win more titles and I want to keep my level on a high. I want to win every tournament with APR and I want to keep scoring,” he added.
Novic’s army side is pooled in Group C alongside Sports Villa Club of Uganda, Singida Big Stars of Tanzania and Sudanese powerhouse Al Merreikh. They play their opening Group C match against home side Singida at KMC Stadium at 4pm.
