Former Togo centre-back Dare Nibombe has been unveiled as the new head coach of the sparrowhawks who are can now prepare in the best way for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers scheduled to start in September.
Togo was left without a coach for its national team since June 20 and the resignation of Portuguese manager Paulo Duarte after a 1-0 loss in Kinshasa against DR Congo on 2026 World Cup qualifiers matchday 4.
So far, rumors suggested that Togo could bring back Didier Six who led them to 2013 AFCON quarterfinals in South Africa or Nicolas Dupuis who is currently at the helm of South udan national team.
However, the FA decided to name a local coach and they did not think twice before choosing dare Nibombe who was Togo’s captain during 2006 World Cup in Germany and who holds a UEFA Pro coaching License.
“After the resignation of Paulo Duarte on June 21, Togo has finally found its new coach. It is Nibombe Dare, officially appointed this Monday July 15 by the Togolese Football Federation (FTF). Nibombe Dare, former international defender of the Sparrowhawks, was chosen from a group of Togolese candidates. After a rigorous evaluation, it was ultimately Dare who was selected to lead the Sparrowhawks”, a statement from the Togolese FA reads.
As a reminder, Togo are in Group E of 2025 AFCON qualifiers alongside Riyad Mahrez’s Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Liberia.
