Olympic Games FIFA Rejects Argentina Complaint On VAR Ruling Against Morocco

World’s football governing body, FIFA has dismissed Argentina’s objections about a last-minute equaliser being thrown out in the opening match of the Summer Olympics against Morocco, Argentina’s football association (AFA) president stated on Saturday.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee rejected the protest filed regarding the events that occurred in the match against Morocco,” AFA President Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia stated on X, adding that he is looking for an explanation for the decision.

Argentina was defeated 2-1 by Morocco in the first men’s football match of the Paris Olympics on Wednesday.

The match was temporarily suspended with a 2-2 draw after a mob of fans stormed the pitch, and two hours later, the video assistance referee (VAR) overturned Argentina’s final goal.

The Paris Olympics organisers stated on Thursday that they were investigating what prompted the fans to break onto the pitch.

In defense of our rights, AFA will ask on what grounds the decision was made and evaluate the relevant appeals,” Tapia said.

Football has a passionate following in Argentina, which has won three World Cups, the most recent against France in 2022.

Argentina also won the Americas’ top continental championship earlier this month, defeating Colombia in another tumultuous final in Miami and setting a Copa America record with its 16th victory.
