ZESCO United coach George Lwandamina has shared his strong feelings that his team can beat Dynamos of Zimbabwe and remain in contention for a spot in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup 2024/25.
Tanaka Shandirwa’s 31st minute goal condemned United to a first-leg loss last weekend and Lwandamina’s charges will have to overturn the result to book themselves a ticket to the second preliminary round due in September.
“It’s a do-or-die game, being a qualifier to the next round, that’s how it becomes important for us. We have to raise the bar of Zambian football not just ZESCO, so we are the servants of football and that’s why I had to come back (to ZESCO),” Lwandamina told the media at a pre-match press conference.
“They (Dynamos) are tactically good, but I am sure we have to do more than what we did in Gaborone if we are to go past them, and I am sure the players are ready to do that.”
Tickets for Saturday’s match set for 15h00 at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola are available from K10 in all Shoprite stores countrywide via CompuTicket.
“We have to do our business on the pitch. I know fans are also important, they are the 12th player, but when you don’t have fans, you still have to play. When you have more fans, you still have to play and do your business,” Lwandamina concluded.
Defender Benedict Chepeshi spoke of the high mood in camp and the team’s readiness to overturn the result. “We have to play as a team like we did in Gaborone, create more chances than we created in the first leg so the most important thing is for us to build each other and do our level best on Saturday. The mood is very okay in camp, we have done our home and had an entire week to prepare for the game,” Chepeshi said.
