Guinea AFCON 2025 Qualifier: Keita Dropped From Guinea Squad

The 23-man Guinean squad will begin their Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign next week, with midfielder Mady Camara being called up after a three-year hiatus; captain Naby Keita has been left off the squad.

Kaba Diawara was fired earlier this month, and Frenchman Charles Paquille, who is of Guinean heritage, will coach the team going forward. Paquille has moved Greek-based Camara from a backlist that Diawara had put him on.

Antoine Conté, Cheick Condé, and Serhou Guirassy, the striker, have all returned to the team despite an injury that kept him from making his Bundesliga debut with Borussia Dortmund.

Guinea will play the Democratic Republic of the Congo at Kinshasa on September 6 and Tanzania in Yamoussoukro on September 10.

Because Guinea lacks a sufficient venue for hosting international matches, they will have to play the Taifa Stars in the city of Ivory Coast.

As Werder Bremen in Germany looks to let go of him, Keita, who captained Guinea’s under-23 team and played as an overage player at the Paris Olympics, has not been able to find a new club.

Goalkeeper Kémoko Touré of Milo FC and attacker Mohamed Saliou Bangoura of Hafia are the two local players included in the squad.
