Cycling Battle for the Future: Key Elections Set to Shape African Cycling in 2025

Cairo is expected to host the African Cycling Confederation (CAC) as they prepare for a pivotal moment in its history. The Election of the CAC president. The date is set for February 16, 2025.

Prior to this upcoming election Mohamed Wagih Azzam, the outgoing president, who had led the CAC through years of transformation has announced his intention of vying for re-election. His tenure was marked by a notable development in competitive cycling across Africa. Under his leadership, national competitions flourished, and international events began to gain traction. In his campaign, Azzam highlighted these achievements, positioning himself as the steady hand that had guided African cycling towards growth.

However, he has two formidable challengers to compete with. Ghanaian Mohammed Baadae Sahnoon has stepped forward, with a vision focused on the youth. His commitment to nurturing young talents is what he hopes to campaign on, he promises to bolster training programs and improve cycling infrastructure throughout the continent. Baadae Sahnoon emphasized the importance of international collaborations, seeking to bridge gaps and connect African cyclists with global opportunities. On the other side, Yao Allah-Kouame from Ivory Coast brings a different perspective. He is advocating for the better organization of competitions, aiming to create an environment where African cyclists could thrive and compete effectively. Allah-Kouame pledges to revitalize the CAC, ensuring that the organization remains relevant while respecting the diverse local realities of African nations.
