Before the transfer market reopens on June 16, Premier League clubs decided to open it early for ten days in June, in advance of the FIFA Club World Cup, the league announced on Thursday.
The decision follows FIFA’s decision to allow member organisations of participating clubs to establish a “exceptional registration window” in June prior to the start of the competition in order to recruit players.
“The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup,” the Premier League said in a statement.
“It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September.”
Chelsea and Manchester City are the two Premier League teams competing in the 32-team Club World Cup in the United States, which takes place from June 14 to July 13.
