Asante Kotoko have secured their place in the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over True Democracy in the quarter-finals. A late winner from Kwame Opoku Bayie sealed the triumph for the Porcupine Warriors, setting up a semi-final showdown against Berekum Chelsea.
The game kicked off with Kotoko displaying early dominance, and their efforts paid off in the 13th minute when Dauda Saaka found the back of the net with a clinical finish. Kotoko maintained control for much of the first half, ensuring they went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
True Democracy, however, came back stronger in the second half, piling pressure on the Kotoko defense. Their persistence paid off in the 60th minute when Isaac Botchway netted the equalizer, bringing the game level at 1-1.
Both sides pushed for a decisive goal, with Kotoko eager to avoid extra time. Their determination bore fruit in the dying moments of additional time after the 90 minutes, as Kwame Opoku Bayie stepped up to score the winner, sending Kotoko through to the last four of the competition.
With this victory, Asante Kotoko inch closer to lifting the prestigious MTN FA Cup, which would grant them a ticket to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup. However, they must now prepare for a tough battle against Berekum Chelsea in the semi-finals.
